Unused Flaws

If you’re looking for a Flaw that isn’t listed otherwise, please search the text of this page to see if we’ve decided not to use it (and perhaps have suggestions for something to take in its place), rather than not having considered it yet.

  • Airhead, Black and White, Black Sheep, Cloistered, Conniver, Discredited, Esoteric Discourse/Technobabbler, Eerie Presence, Inferiority Complex, Isolated Upbringing, Laughingstock, Narc, New Kid, Notoriety, Oathbreaker, Outsider, Sell-Out, Shrinking Violet, Shy, Tortured Artist, Turncoat, Unblinking, Unproven, Vulgar: These Flaws all have more or less the same general effect: you suffer a penalty to Social rolls under particular circumstances. We instead use the Outsider Flaw to encompass all the possibilities listed and then some, on a relatively level playing field.
  • Albino, Animal Musk, Anosmia, Asthma, Bad Sight, Blind, Broken Voice, Deaf, Deformed, Disfigured, Hemophiliac, Impaired Hearing, Parfum de Goat, Repulsive Feature, Speech Impediment, Seizures, Sterile (for spheres other than Shifter), Stigmata, Swarthy, The Largest Maw: Use an appropriate Impediment instead.
  • Alien Impression, Alpha, Animal, Beta, My Master is My Slave, No Dexterous Limbs, Omega, Power Source, Ungainly Fingers, Weak Spot: These are intended for Construct/Familiar PCs, which are not currently supported here. Some of these may be acceptable for NPC Familiars.
  • Anachronism, Bigot, Broken, Cultural Other, Dogmatic, Echo Chamber, Extreme Kink, Inappropriate, Inbred, Profiled Appearance, Vanilla, Yearning Soul: These Flaws have a tendency to lead to what we euphemistically describe as “inappropriate behavior.” That we expect PCs to be the kind of people who make a positive impact on the world means these sorts of Flaws will not be as much of a drawback as they need to be to be worth the points.
  • Animal Amnesia, Guilt-Wracked, Hibernation, Ignorance, Incoherent, Incomplete Understanding, Limbless, Mortal Inhibition, Recluse, Twisted Apprenticeship, Twisted Upbringing, Unbelief, Victim of the Masquerade: These Flaws place a significant burden on other players to accommodate the character who has them. If you want to play a character like that, that’s fine (though be prepared to have trouble finding play), but we don’t want to encourage it with extra points.
  • Apprentice, Camp Enmity, Catspaw, Clan Enmity, Dangerous Secret, Debts, Diabolical Mentor, Disgrace to the Blood, Enemy Brood, Expendable, Expiration Date, Failure, Foe From The Past, Gremlin, Haunted, Hit List, Hunted, Hunted Like A Dog, Immortal Enemy, Infamous Mentor, Infamous Sire, Insane Mentor, Loose Lips, Overextended, Persistent Parents, Rival House, Rival Sires, Rivalry, Sect Enmity, Sire’s Resentment, Spirit Magnet (Flaw), Sympathizer, Troublemaker, Ward, Witch-Hunted: While these are all different in their own way, the effect is more or less the same: there are people or things who’re causing trouble for you because of something you’ve done, something you are, or both. We suggest using Enemy (see General Flaws), and defining the nature of the relationship appropriately in the explanatory note; remember that someone doesn’t need to be an actual enemy in order to make your life harder!
  • Arcane Curse, Geas, Oathbound, Paranormal Imperative/Prohibition, Stolen Tooth: Use Cursed instead.
  • Artificially Aged, Child: These Flaws violate our requirement that all characters be both physically and mentally adult.
  • Aura of the Typhon, Blood-Hungry Soul, Duplicitous, Ghoul (Mage Flaw), Methuselah’s Thirst, Lord of the Night, Problem with Authority, Taint of Corruption, Territorial, Thirst for Innocence, Wyrm Tainted: These Flaws are likely to cause PvP situations to arise. We recognize that some such situations will arise anyway, but we don’t have to encourage them by offering points for things that lead in that direction.
  • Banshee-in-Waiting, Bedeviled, Blood Feud, Body Trail, Can’t Eat Solid Food, Dead Inside, Dreadful Mara, Escaped Target, Fixation, Fortune’s Fool, Heartless, Infectious, Masquerade Breaker, Mental Lock, Outcast, Shadow Walker, Throwback, Uppity, Vassal of the Clan, Warrior’s Heart: These Flaws all require that a Storyteller track information that is not easily available to players (if at all) and apply penalties on the basis of that information. They’re great for the tabletop, but impossible to handle fairly in a MUX environment.
  • Bard’s Tongue (Mage Flaw): Use Rotten Liar (the 3-point version) instead. The Changeling version relies on more Storyteller involvement to be supported here.
  • Beacon of the Unholy, Betrayer’s Mark, Bizarre Quality, Conflicting Loyalties, Domitor Pariah, Lost Svadharma, On Probation, Private Life, Probationary Member, Probationary Sect Member, Trophy Arrogance: These Flaws all rely on other players, as well as NPCs, to portray hostility toward another character in their sphere. Most players, understandably, are reluctant to have their characters act with the level of hostility that would make these Flaws worth their point value, and staff does not feel that enforcing an appropriate value with NPCs is the best use of our time.
  • Blacklisted, Paper Trail, Under Surveillance: These overlap with both Enemy and Infamy; choose one or both depending on which fits your character concept better.
  • Blood Hunted, Contagious, Disease Carrier, Faceless, Fugitive, Hostage, Red List: These Flaws saddle a character with drawbacks so severe that it’s likely to cripple RP if other players treat them appropriately.
  • Blood Weakness, Brittle Body, Chandala, Consumption, Lightweight, Multiple Curses, Oathbreaker, Out of Phase, Permanent Third Eye, Refined Palate, Stone Tongue: These Flaws are all specific to a very narrow range of character types that are expected to be rare or nonexistent in-game, and so we have opted not to include them. Of all the items on this list, these are probably the easiest to get added if one of them is extremely important to your character concept.
  • Bound: If your character is blood bound to an NPC, this is probably not worth points; staff doesn’t have the ability to be active enough in roleplaying your regnant to make it so. If your character is blood bound to a PC, this is presumably because you (OOC) want to be bound, and therefore this is not worth points. You may take Enemy to model the effects of having an NPC regnant, if you wish.
  • Bound to the Clan, Dangerous Mentor, Fallen Noble, Former Prince, Grip of the Damned, Icy, Infectious Bite, Jinx/Infernal Contraption, Loathesome Regnant, Old Flame, Recruitment Target, Rose-Colored Glasses, Sleeping with the Enemy, The Eighth, Unconvinced: These Flaws rely for their value on the Storyteller to be much more active in roleplaying the NPCs associated with individual characters than we have the ability to, at least on any regular basis.
  • Broken Antitribu, Revenant Weakness, Shadow Scarred, Unsanctioned Embrace: These Flaws are meant for Sabbat characters, who are not currently supported as PCs.
  • Can’t Cross Running Water: There’s an awful lot of running water buried under London, and fifteen meters is a long way. We feel it would be difficult and aggravating to keep track of where you can and can’t go with this Flaw.
  • Carrion Presence, Dark Aura, Plague of Demons: These Flaws are meant for Baali characters, who are not currently supported as PCs (and are unlikely to ever be).
  • Cast No Reflection/Cast No Shadow: These Flaws give you a penalty to Social rolls — with a very cool special effect, granted, but the game mechanics fit neatly under Outsider.
  • Changeling’s Eyes: This isn’t really a Flaw, it’s just a way to look exotically hot that also gives you points. You’re welcome to have strangely-colored eyes, but in this day and age of fancy contact lenses, there’s really no meaningful downside any more, so it has no point value.
  • Dark Fate: The story effect of this Flaw requires a lot of Storyteller input to give it the impact it deserves, and the game mechanical impact alone is not really in line with other similarly-priced Flaws. We suggest using Cursed with the “already in effect” aspect in its place.
  • Degeneration (6 and 9 point versions): The higher-point versions of this Flaw just aren’t limiting enough. One health level of damage every two real-life weeks in a game where characters will probably not spend a lot of time out of reach of medical help or magickal healing is hardly more than an inconvenience.
  • Demented Eidolon, Faulty Enhancements, Fifth Degree, Rogue: These Flaws are meant for Technocracy characters, who are not currently supported as PCs.
  • Double Agent, Ulterior Motive: We’d prefer not to encourage the “infiltrator” type characters for whom these Flaws are meant.
  • Fangless: Use Dulled Bite instead.
  • Hero Worship: Generally, players who take this Flaw make their character’s Hero someone who they’d be happy to follow the instructions of anyway. That’s not really worth points.
  • Innocent: Use Sanctity instead.
  • Kiss of Death: Vampires potentially causing zombies to spring up on a regular basis is a neat idea, but we feel it’s more manageable for an NPC.
  • Knows Too Much: Use Chronic Depression instead.
  • Lifesaver: Use the 3-point version of Soft-Hearted instead.
  • Loudmouth: We feel Loose Lips is more appropriately priced; use that instead.
  • Mark of the Predator: If you take this Flaw, you probably weren’t planning on taking Animal Ken anyway.
  • Mayfly Curse: We don’t want to encourage players to think of their characters as disposable or temporary.
  • New Arrival: This Flaw has a very short expiration date, and we don’t want to be put in the position of having to hound players to get rid of it in an appropriate time frame.
  • Obsession, Vengeful: Use Driving Goal instead.
  • Open Wound (4 point version): This is just the 2-point version of Open Wound, plus the effects of a 3-point Flaw (Permanent Wound), for 4 points; there’s no reason for anyone to take this rather than taking the two Flaws separately.
  • Pacifist: Use the 3-point version of Soft-Hearted instead.
  • Path Inept: The restrictions on number and dots in hedge magick paths make it very unlikely that this Flaw will hinder a character enough to be worth the extra points.
  • Psi Focus, Psychic Feedback, Wild Talent: Psychic characters are not currently supported.
  • Ritual Sleeper: Sorcerer characters are not currently supported.
  • Romantic Notions: As with Hero Worship (q.v.), if you’re playing a ghoul who’s already Blood Bound, you probably don’t need this Flaw to convince you to do what your character’s domitor wants.
  • Self-Preservation: For PC ghouls with NPC domitors, this is not really worth points — staff won’t be able to spend the time needed RPing the domitor to make it so. For PC ghouls with PC domitors, we remind the latter of the first rule in the Player Code of Conduct — behave with respect and consideration to one another. Trying to force another player into sacrificing their character is not considerate or respectful, however reasonable it might be IC.
  • Shark Teeth, Unsure Footing: Rokea are not currently supported as PCs.
  • Squeamish: Use Combat Novice instead.
  • Troglodyte: Use Impediment instead.
  • Vulnerability: We don’t expect to have the level of regular, close staff involvement that would be needed to make this worth the points.
  • Xenophobe: This Flaw is meant for White Howler characters, a Garou tribe that is long since extinct in our timeline.
