Mission Statement

The mission of TowersMUX is to provide a welcoming, inclusive environment in which to support player-centric cooperative storytelling.  That’s a lot of buzzwords, so please bear with us for a minute while we talk briefly about each one.

Welcoming: We want you to be glad you chose to play here, and to feel like we are glad you chose to play here.  We do not tolerate the OOC mistreatment, harassment, or abuse of our players for any reason.

Inclusive: We want you to feel like you’re able to participate in the story of London and the people who live here, and that your actions have an effect on how that story unfolds.  We promise to be transparent, open, and fair in our decision-making.  We don’t believe in unwritten rules — requirements will be public rather than private; standards will be applied as equitably as possible; there will be no secret antagonist spheres or special character types offered only under the table; our decisions will be open for discussion.

Player-Centric: The stories we tell here should be fundamentally about the player characters.  That doesn’t mean PCs will always be the center of attention, or that they’ll always get what they want, but it does mean shaping stories around the PCs and their actions, not around NPCs or pre-determined plot points.  We encourage players to try out new things, new spheres, new characters, new concepts, and new ideas.  Not everything that every player asks for will be permitted, but when we say ‘no’ we’ll do our best to suggest alternatives.

Cooperative: This game isn’t about staff telling their story, and it isn’t about players telling their story; it’s about all of us telling a story together.  We expect our players to work together OOC to further that story, not shut each other down or freeze each other out — even if they’re working against each other IC.  As much as is possible, we will try to determine the course of the game based on in-world logic and what direction our players want to drive it, rather than imposing our own preconceptions on the storyline.

Storytelling: Everything else comes together into this basic truth; we’re here to tell stories.  This doesn’t mean that ignoring the rules is OK, but it does mean remembering that they’re there to support storytelling, not an end in themselves.  We want you to feel comfortable sharing and developing your stories, and to work with us and with other players to fit them together into a single tapestry.
