In addition to the standard allotment of dots and freebie points, TowersMUX offers some additional XP to starting characters. This is meant to be a modest bonus, rather than a character-changing amount of XP; the amount varies depending on your individual character type. You don’t need to explicitly request or confirm this additional XP with staff; just follow the process below to determine your character’s starting XP and allocate it during chargen.
- Start with a base of 15 XP; all characters get at least this much to start with.
- Step 1:
- Add 15 XP if you are a member of one of the seven common Vampire Clans (whether Camarilla or Anarch) or a Ghoul for same; a Homid from a common Garou Tribe or Kinfolk of same; a Homid or Rodens Ratkin with one of the four standard Aspects; a Corax; a common Mage Tradition; a common Changeling Kith; a Kinain; or a Mortal (including non-powered Mage Consors). Go to step 2.
- OR, add 10 XP if you are an Assamite, Caitiff, Follower of Set, Giovanni, Ravnos,or a Ghoul for same; a Homid from an uncommon Garou Tribe or Kinfolk of same, or a Metis Garou from a common Tribe; a Metis Ratkin; a Homid Ananasi or Bastet; an uncommon Changeling Kith; or a Hsien. Note: these character types should be discussed with staff before beginning character generation, and applications will require approval from two staff members. Go to step 2.
- OR, add 5 XP if you are a Daughter of Cacophony, Gargoyle, Lasombra, Nagaraja, Salubri, Samedi, Tzimisce, or a Ghoul for same; a Homid from a rare Garou Tribe or Kinfolk of same, a Metis Garou from an uncommon Tribe, or a Lupus Garou from a common Tribe; a Ratkin Freak Aspect; a Kojin Kitsune or Homid Mokole; or a rare Changeling Kith. Note: these character types should be discussed with staff before beginning character generation, require application approval from a majority of current staff, and have a limited number of slots available. Go to step 2.
- Step 2:
- Add 5 XP if your character appears to be in their teens or twenties. Go to step 3.
- OR, add 10 XP if your character appears to be in their thirties. Go to step 3.
- OR, add 15 XP if your character appears to be in their forties. Go to step 3.
- OR, add 20 XP if your character appears to be in their fifties or older. Go to step 3.
- Note: If the character is older than their apparent age (they’re a Vampire, they’re a Mage with Immortal, etc.), only the apparent age is relevant.
- Step 3:
- Add the amounts from step 1 and step 2 to the base of 15. This should give you a number between 25 and 50. This is your starting XP!
With the sole exception of XP transferred from characters who are killed in play, TowersMUX does not give out additional XP beyond this amount. Not to characters whose applications portray them as authority figures; not to characters who are unusually old; not to characters whose applications are exceptionally well-written; certainly not to characters played by staff; not to anyone. It is every player’s responsibility to make sure the character portrayed in their application can be written up with the dots, freebies, and XP they have to work with.
Retired or Dead Characters
You may at your option receive for a new character half the total earned XP of a character who has recently died or otherwise been permanently removed from play. This XP is in place of, not in addition to, your normal starting XP allocation.
There is a maximum starting XP of 200 for characters taking advantage of this rule.
A retired or deceased character may not benefit more than one new character in this manner.
